When?
Oct. 18, 2011 6:30-8:30
Where?
Kent Senior Center 600 East Smith Street Kent, WA 98030
Why?
School discipline is an equity issue.
Description
A student wanted to play a senior prank, so he stashed an inflatable doll in a bathroom stall. Upon hearing there was a “blow-up doll” in the school, administrators called the bomb squad. Instead of getting laughs, the student was expelled and now faces up to 8 years in jail for a miscommunication.

School discipline is getting out of hand. More and more students are being kicked out of the classroom, suspended and expelled for no good reason.

Students of color and low-income students are far more likely to be disciplined than their wealthy white peers.

Come to Kent and tell your stories. We’ve got state legislators who are ready to listen.
From 6:30-7:30 we’ll do a quick training on how to talk to legislators and from 7:30-8:30 you’ll get quality face time with adults that can actually make change.

Legislators in attendance:
Pat Sullivan
Joe Fain
Mark Hargrove
Tina Orwall
Dave Upthegrove
