| The UW has a $3.4 million dollar contract with Sodexo, a corporation cited with international uman rights abuses like paying poverty wages, racial discrimination, failing to provide basic health care, and forcing women to take pregnancy tests as a condition of employment. In the past year, as part of a global campaign, a coalition of 20+ student groups have made it clear through demonstrations, speak-outs, letters to administration, and even being arrested at sit-ins that we don’t want our school doing business with a company like this, yet our voices have gone ignored. This cannot go on any longer. Students and workers are sick – sick of Sodexo, and sick of the dismissal of student voices. USAS and supporters have made a very reasonable demand to make our school a more ethical place but it seems President Young has his own agenda that doesn’t include his own students. With the current renovation of Husky Stadium, it’s possible to cut the Sodexo contract and bring in a better company. |
